Our People
As explained in the history section of this site, the original CwaC idea was dreamed up by a few pesto-pioneers while basking in some good reviews of a once-off catering gig in mid-2005.
Katrina Bercov is the food-loving founder of CwaC - with masses of help and support from husband Cameron and lots of amazing volunteers and friends.
A professional educator and award-winning business manager, Katrina has a tertiary background in psychology and education. Always an entrepreneur, at the age of 20 Katrina established "Ovations", her own training and events company, in the back room of her parents' house, with a 386 computer and a home phone-line. When she sold up a decade later in 2004, she had been named the Young Business Woman of the Year (2000) and the business was a nation-wide company, with a swag of top 500 clients, employing 20 people.
After a couple of years working in Arts Management and Training and Development, Katrina took a sea change to get serious about food.
Fresh from the home-dinner-party school of cuisine, she has been professionally catering since 2004 and has recently completed Certificate 2 of Commercial Cookery (Chef Training) to develop some industry knowledge.
Although currently coordinating CwaC on a voluntary basis, Katrina also runs a commercial eco-catering business called Source and is opening a cafe in 2007.
Katrina loves organic vegies, thinks everyone should make their own pesto but admits to buying tinned chickpeas. She drinks too much coffee.
Katrina is married to Cameron who has also been involved with CwaC from its beginnings. Cameron is an Environmental Lawyer with a background in conservation work, specialising in biodiversity. Along with being an active participant in the practical side of the operation, Cameron brings much specialist sustainability knowledge to the CwaC table.
Katrina and Cameron salute Scott who was at the first ever pre-CwaC gig and has been showing up ever since. Scott is a great cook with a day job... but maybe we can change that?
Robyn from the Pinakarri Community has been especially supportive, lending us much needed items and offering consistent help and support.
Pip is a great friend and great cook who has been amazingly available and has shared her skills and knowledge generously.
Our other volunteers are too numerous to list but we love them all.
Why don't you join us?
You can volunteer for CwaC any time and we are also currently looking for paid cafe staff to start in 2007.
